I received this book for free to review from bethany house publishing group. My reviews are my honest opinions.
Many, if not all, of us, have faced something in our lives that caused us to lose faith. It is natural, and as one of the authors points out- scriptural! Plenty of characters in the Bible's stories show us their anger, disappointment, and fear of abandonment in relation to God. Finding God in the Dark attempts to examine the darkness of struggle and encourage us to know that God is there all along.
Unfortunately, I felt this book was a bit of a letdown. It had such a beautiful premise that I was elated to be selected to review it. I was rather put off by the time I finished it, however. It is a very short book and an easy read at a mere 139 pages. I actually wished very much that it only had one author as Kluck's writing style was much more accessible. I found this book to be preachy and even condescending to the reader at times. Criticizing R.E.M straight away was also not my favorite as I enjoy the band, but that was a tiny trivial matter. Feeling invalidated in my own pain was not a small matter, though, and it certainly was not the emotion I expected to take away from this book. I cannot say I would recommend it.
I love to share opinions and here you can find opinions on the books I'm reading!
