Chris Tomlin is a favorite artist among my family and I so I was incredibly excited to hear Holy Roar for the first time. I loved the concept of freedom in praise so much. In the title track "Holy Roar," the lyrics in the chorus set a tone for what the entire album accomplishes:
"a holy roar/ reaching for heaven/ our praise poured out/ with reckless abandon/ our worship, God,/ is wholly Yours"
The line about "reckless abandon" stuck with me. How many times do we all hold back parts of ourselves- even from God? It made me remember dancing before God as a little girl before I was old enough to care what others thought.
All of the album is beautiful and refreshing, but none touched me more than "I Stand In Awe" (featuring Nicole Serrano.) Ever had the weight of the world on your heart and you just feel desperate to lay it down in worship? I know I have- especially lately. There's something about worship that comes from every fiber of your being that has a way of giving us so much peace. Listening to this song (my favorite on the album), soothed my heart in the gentle way that only worship can. When I hear it, I remember just how much God has given, sacrificed, created, and planned for me- and you. And the burdens of life suddenly seem easier to bear.
