I feel like I have seen so many people rave about vacuum sealers, so I'm definitely a bit late to the party, but I'm so glad I got one now! I am big on buying fresh produce and one of my biggest pet peeves is when it goes bad before I get to it. Have I been legitimately sad about a bundle of asparagus going bad earlier this week? Absolutely. So a vacuum sealer was a perfect solution for me and my produce!!
I got this pretty blue vacuum sealer on Amazon and it had everything you need to get started in the box. I was a bit nervous to try it at first and it took a minute of trial and error while reading the instructions to get the hang of getting the bag in the right spot for the seal to happen. Once you get used to it, though, you'll want to seal everything you own. It's unexpectedly a lot of fun!
These are the settings on the machine. You can indicate different settings for moist food like meat, etc. I used the "Normal" and "Dry" settings on my green pepper and broccoli. I pushed "Vac Seal" to get my full vacuum seal. The blue lever on the right is to lock in the seal and you turn it the other way to unlock it after the seal is done. It's very straightforward and you can hit "Stop" if it isn't sealing to your liking, use the lever to open the machine and adjust your bag.
The machine seals in about 40 seconds. As you can see from my pictures, these veggies are sealed-in good and tight! This will make it possible for them to stay fresh quite a bit longer and I'm really excited about how much freedom that will give my cooking schedule. I also plan to try sealing meats to freeze and to do some quick marinate seals in the near future with this cool device! I may even venture into sous-vide cooking which always sounded good.
